Display Dynamics, Inc. partnered with the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force to design, engineer, fabricate, and install a full-scale custom replica of one of the most storied vessels in the history of flight – the Space Shuttle Orbiter. The project was a great opportunity for DDI to work with the museum to help showcase what the Air Force has to offer, and is sure to add another level of excitement for visitors to the museum.

The planning stages got underway in the summer of 2012, and all the hard work over the duration of the project resulted in an outstanding exhibit experience. In contrast to many of the other shuttle exhibits around the country, this one has been designed to allow visitors to get up close and personal with the shuttle, and provides them an opportunity to really appreciate its complexity and scale. There are three viewing ports into the Crew Compartment Trainer (CCT) flight deck and mid-deck, as well as full access through a recreated payload bay that displays the top-secret "Teal Ruby" satellite that was developed during the height of the Cold War era. Other highlights of the exhibit include entrance/exit ramps in the shape of wings, and 360 degree access for viewing.

As an added feature to the exhibit, there's also a STEM Learning Auditorium with multimedia shows and guided educational programming that will increase awareness of the roles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in flight.
